Stuck in rut or just need a refresh? Why not hit the town and bask in the sunshine with a sexy, new haircut?
From romantic waves and bangs, to the big chop or a pixie cut, there's no shortage of hair inspirations.
To help you find the right style for you, we spoke with celebrity hairstylist, groomer to the stars, and founder of Contents Haircare Cheryl Bergamy to find out the 12 sexiest haircuts to try.
The Mullet
If you haven't noticed, the mullet is back, appearing at events and red carpets on the likes of celebs, such as Miley Cyrus. "The [modern] recreations of the mullet are softer and elegant with a slight edge to [create] an effortless look [that is] suitable for all hair textures," says Bergamy.
What to ask for: Business in the front, party in the back, duh! But in all seriousness, tell your stylist that the you'd like the crown area to be cut short with layers and leave the back long, says Bergamy. Decide the length you'd like and bringing a picture never hurts.
A Big Chop — TWA Style
"If you are transitioning from a relaxer to natural and you feel a little daring, it's the perfect time to do a big chop TWA [teeny weenie afro] style," says Bergamy.
What to ask for: Bergamy suggests telling your stylist you're in the transitional stage between relaxer and natural, where you only have an inch to an inch-and-a-half of natural hair length. Then have them remove all relaxed ends and shape your new growth into a TWA.
Curtain Bangs
"Bangs are making their mark again, from the curtain bangs to curly bangs, and they can transform any hairstyle [into] a fun, classic, and flirty one," says Bergamy.
What to Ask For: Use this bangs style as your in-between look while growing out your fringe, or as a way to ease into styling bangs if you're chopping them for the first time. Ask your pro for long fringe with enough weight so that they can be parted in the center — like Camila Cabello — or swept to the side.
Bob
"With an amazing bob cut you can never go wrong," the stylist says.
What to ask for: Bergamy suggests taking a photo to show your stylist, then clarifying if you want a layered bob or all one length, like Taylor Swift's bob here. If you want a bit of a longer length, tell your stylist you want a "lob,"(a.k.a. long bob).
Layered Curly Bob
"A soft layer cut is amazing for framing around the face adding definition to textured hair," says Bergamy.
What to ask for: A bob with fluid and soft layers. This cut will level-up already gorgeous curls, and can be transformed into an entirely different look by simply switching up your part. Case in point: Taraji P. Henson's deep side-parted bob with voluminous curls.
Front Layers
"No matter where the wind blows, your layered haircut will always fall back into place, giving a soft flowing look with every movement," says Bergamy.
What to ask for: Lady Gaga's cut features heavy layers around her face and tapered ends. Bonus: It's an easy wash and go style, but looks even better styled in loose waves. Bergamy suggests clarifying exactly the kind of layers you want. Make sure to distinguish if you want soft, textured, or choppy layers.
Long Layers
Ciara's angled hairstyle demonstrates the look perfectly.
What to ask for: Face-framing layers, but they shouldn't be choppy! Again, Bergamy emphasizes the need to distinguish the type of layers to your stylist, and if they don't explain the different options for layers, she says that's your cue to "get out of the chair!"
Choppy Pixie Cut
"A pixie cut is a sassy look that is light and gives a youthful look," says Bergamy. First, decide what length you of pixie you'd like to rock. If you want to go short, this is a versatile haircut that eliminates length and still looks amazing across all hair types.
What to ask for: A cropped cut with short, choppy layers for added movement.
Long, Layered Pixie
If you want to go short, but don't want to lose styling options, this versatile haircut is for you. Pro tip: "Adding bangs to a pixie is amazing and will add dramatic flare," says Bergamy, just like Jada Pinkett Smith's sexy cut here.
What to ask for: Be sure to ask for significant length and body on top — enough to be able to pull up into a mini ponytail.
Gradual Layers
If you want a layered style but have fine hair, Bergamy suggests getting gradual layers to add texture.
What to ask for: Layers that subtly slide from short to long. While these layers work on any length, they add bulk and volume to your fine locks.
Asymmetrical Lob
You can't go wrong with a sexy, asymmetric cut, says Bergamy. "By cutting the hair directly on the shoulders it delivers a perfectly soft look and frames the jawline allowing to show off your best feature."
What to ask for: A lob traditionally hits right below or above the collarbone. Ask for this length, but tell your stylist you want it a little longer in the front and shorter in the back. The beauty of this popular cut is that you can wear it wavy or sleek and straight like Jennifer Lopez.
