Bob Elliott Dead: Comedian and Chris' Dad, Abby's Grandpa Was 92

Bob Elliott, part of the classic radio and TV comedy duo Bob and Ray, died at his Cundy’s Harbor, Maine, home at age 92 on Tuesday, February 2. His son, actor Chris Elliott, confirmed the news to The New York Times.

Bob was best known for his comedy partnership with Ray Goulding, with whom he cohosted several radio programs beginning in the late 1940s. The pair went on to star on NBC’s Bob & Ray, which ran from 1951 to 1953. They later made frequent appearances on The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show.

Bob also appeared on such sitcoms as Happy Days and Newhart.

Chris, 55, Bob’s son with second wife Lee Pepper, is known for Saturday Night Live, Groundhog Day and How I Met Your Mother, on which he played Lily’s (Alyson Hannigan) father. Bob portrayed Chris’ dad in Fox’s cult series Get a Life, which aired from 1990 to 1992, and the 1994 film Cabin Boy.

Chris’ daughter Abby Elliott was a cast member for four seasons of SNL and currently stars on Bravo’s Odd Mom Out.

Bob is survived by children Chris, Colony Elliott Santangelo, Amy Elliott Andersen, Shannon Elliott and Robert Jr., along with 11 grandchildren, including Abby, and five great-grandchildren. Pepper died in 2012.
