Like mother, like daughter, indeed! Proving that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Hollywood daughters have long been taking fashion and beauty cues from their super stylish moms – and we don’t blame them.
From Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford’s ‘90s supermodel style to Reese Witherspoon and Ava Phillippe’s girl-next-door glam, we are all about mother-daughter #twinning that runs far deeper than a casual family resemblance.
“I don’t ask [my husband Jim Toth] too much. I usually ask my 17-year-old daughter [Ava], ‘Does this look good?’ and she’ll be honest with me,” Witherspoon told Today’s Jenna Bush Hager in October 2016. “She’ll be like, ‘No. You do not look good. You cannot wear that.’ So I depend on her brutal honesty.”
Ava, who is the daughter of Witherspoon and ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, has also turned to her mother for advice about appearances over the years.
“Pretty is as pretty does,” Ava told E! News’ Daily Pop in December 2021 of the Sweet Home Alabama star’s most “special” advice on the topic. “As pretty as you ever look on the outside, you’re only as pretty as you are on the inside and the way you treat other people. If that’s not a beauty tip, I don’t know what is.”
Crawford, for her part, revealed in June 2021 the one thing she’d steal from her daughter — and it’s not something in her closet.
“For me, it was like my hair finally caught up to my face. As a woman, you know you’re going to get wrinkles and your hair is going to turn gray, but no one really talks about the hair itself aging,” the supermodel told WSJ. Magazine at the time, noting that when she looks at her daughter’s hair she is jealous. “I’m like, ‘You have my old hair; give it back.’”
Kaia, who followed in her mother’s footsteps as a model, previously gushed about being compared to Crawford.

“Beyond her beauty and obvious appeal, she has always been my hero and my role model because of the way she treats people and the lens that she sees the world through,” Randy Gerber’s daughter wrote in an essay for Vogue’s November 2019 issue. “And that’s something for which I’m beyond grateful.
