When Mary Elizabeth Bailey’s mother urged her to do the unimaginable, she was only eleven years old.

After her violent stepfather, Wayne Wyers, slumped unconscious in a chair inside their West Virginia house in February 1987, Mary’s mother, Priscilla Wyers, gave her a.22 calibre rifle and ordered her to shoot and kill him.

“‘It’s all over if you do this,’ she declared. You’re too young to wind up in prison. Mary observed that despite her mother’s pleas, Priscilla persisted.

Priscilla first admitted to detectives that she had shot Wayne after the cops arrived. Mary had earlier remarked, “she said it was all my idea,” though.

Priscilla and Mary faced charges of homicide. After Mary testified against her mother, the charges against her were dismissed, and she was eventually placed in foster care.

In 1988, Priscilla was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury. Despite having a life sentence, she was granted parole in 1998 and was soon after released. Priscilla moved in with Mary as soon as she got back home.
